This song tells the story of a woman who dies of neglect and a pining heart after her husband leaves on a journey. She counts off the months of the year, with her illness becoming more and more severe, until she is called by the king of the underworld and funeral rites are held for her. These lyrics are also repeated as a stanza in the longer mountain song, "Going up to Tea Mountain."
